TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY

A Total Hip Arthroplasty aims to restore the functionality of the joint lost following traumas or invalidating pathologies.

Implantation of an artificial joint aims to reduce pain, regain lost mobility and improve the patient’s quality of life.

A hip prosthesis is generally composed of 3 components made of highly biocompatible materials:

1. Femoral Stem (metal)
2. Articular Head (metal or ceramic)
3. 3. Acetabular Cup composed by a metal shell with a Polyethylene or ceramic inner liner (cementless) or totally made of Polyethylene (cemented).

FIxation of the prosthesis to the bone can be cementless (biological fixation) or cemented.
