TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY
A Total Knee Arthroplasty aims to restore the functionality of the joint lost following traumas or invalidating pathologies.
Implantation of an artificial joint aims to reduce pain, regain lost mobility and improve the patient’s quality of life.
A knee prosthesis is generally composed of 3 components made of highly biocompatible materials
1. Tibial component (metal)
2. Joint liner (polyethylene)
3. Femoral component (metal) and eventual patellar component (polyethylene)
FIxation of the prosthesis to the bone can be cementless (biological fixation) or cemented.
